SNAT NEC seeks Industrial Court intervention.

Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) National Executive Committee (NEC) has decided to seek relief at the Industrial Court over the suspended salary of their President Mbongwa Dlamini. Dlamini’s salary was stopped after Ministry of Education and Training Schools Manager Lungelo Nhlengetfwa reported an absenteeism case against Dlamini with the Teaching Service Commission (TSC). Dlamini is accused of being absent from his teaching post for 109 days in the period between December 2021 and October 2022. According to SNAT Secretary General Lot Vilakati, Dlamini was paid his October salary but it was later reversed by government and the November salary was not paid at all. Vilakati decried the failure to follow procedure when stopping the salary of Dlamini as there was no absent-from-duty form and immediate supervisor’s report filed at the treasury department and served to Dlamini before his salary was stopped. Vilakati also added that after two petitions have been delivered at the Ministry of Education & Training, there has been no change in the situation involving their President. It is for that reason that the union’s NEC has filed an urgent application at the court for the re-instatement of the President’s salary pending the outcome of his case with the TSC.
